Update on U.N. Small Arms Conference

The NRA/ILA has an update on the first 5 days of the conference. It is encouraging to see the U.S. standing up for our rights on Day Two:

The highlight of today’s meeting was the United States statement delivered by U.S. Under Secretary of State Robert Joseph. Joseph politely but forcefully gave the U.S. “red lines” - issues which the U.S. strongly opposes and will not allow into any Conference report or recommendations. These included interference with Americans’ Right To Bear Arms, a UN ban on transfer of arms to freedom fighters and international regulation of ammunition. The U.S. also said it was not ready to commit to any future conferences on small arms.

This conference is a perfect oppourtunity to apply Joe Huffman’s ‘Jews in the Attic Test’, which asks the obvious question “Will this law make it difficult or impossible to protect innocent life from a government intent on their imprisonment or death?“. In this case the answer is provided by their own testimony:

… the draft contained provisions on two issues the U.S. considers “Red lines” and will not accept - a UN ban on transfer of arms to freedom fighters and international regulation of ammunition.

It continues to amaze me that credibility is given to an organization that refuses to support allowing people to fight for their own freedom. It appears that the U.N. would rather send in its ‘peace keepers’ to abuse the people they are supposed to be protecting.

And apparently the Vatican has weighed in on the gun control issue as well. According to this article

the Holy See’s representative at the UN, endorsing “the promotion of disarmament” and calling for stiffer international controls on the sale and possession of firearms.

Not all Catholics support gun control, the St. Gabriel Possenti Society is dedicated to promoting the patron Saint of handgunners and bringing attention to the church’s anti-gun stance.
