Guns, Guns and Kaboom!   September 26th, 2006

I’ve been a bit remiss in my posting chedule here as of late. Sorry about that. Maybe this will mke up for it. I spent Saturday at an undisclosed location with a bunch of the WA HTF (Hometown Forum) guys from AR15.com at their regular shoot/camp event. I only went for the day, and it was a heck of a time! There were well over 50 people there, uncountable guns of every variety, and friendly people everywhere. There was a bunch of Tannerite brought so we had our own short range Boomershoot as well!

My pictures can be found in the gallery, and other pics over at AR15.com WAHTF and more here.

In addition to the usual collection of AR-15′s we had 3 Barret .50′s, numerous M1 Garands, M14′s, a Thompson, P90, FALs and some others that I didn’t recognize and don’t remember the names of. I got to shoot several different ones for the first time, the Thompson being my favorite.

It was a beautiful day for Washington in September, the guys running the line did an excellent job and even though there were a few rifles that broke (watch out for the kind of ammo you are using, especially Adcom) there were no injuries.

This comes in via Jerry Pournelle’s website – In Germany it has apparently been illegal to homeschool your children. Several families have fled the country, with one of the mothers being imprisoned for 10 days. You can read the original post here at the Brussels Journal.

ISM Is A Front for Terrorists   September 14th, 2006

ISM posing with AK-47's and Terrorist

Apparently there is an organization called the International Solidarity Movement (how’s that for a euphemism!?), they are supposedly just another of the many peacenik groups trying to help those poor oppressed refugees on the West Bank and Gaza. Supposedly. Now we know the real story, thanks to FrontPage Magazine:

As a front group for Palestinian terrorists, the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) sends young people from all over the world to the training fields of the West Bank and Gaza to learn from terrorists and to aid them logistically. Stop the ISM has now obtained photographs of ISM leaders and organizers holding AK-47 assault rifles. The images show some of the ISM women disguised as Jews living in the West Bank and in the company of an Al Aksa Martyrs Brigade terrorist.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that students were suspended for wearing patriotic t-shirts commemorating the 9/11 attacks.

Lewandowski says he was only trying to be patriotic when he wore a homemade T-shirt featuring an American flag bumper sticker and the words “Remember 9/11″ to Lincoln Park High School on Monday.

Thinking about sending your kids to Public School? Don’t.

2nd plane

This Free Republic post links to original threads from 9/11/2001, its like sitting through a play-by-play of the day’s events. Some of the comments are factual, some speculation. One guy hit on Osama bin-Laden as the source of the attacks soon after the first reports came in.

Debunking 9/11 Myths

Michelle Malkin’s review of Debunking 9/11 Myths is a good way to commerate the 5th anniversary of the attacks.

I’ve got a book review of Popular Mechanics’ excellent book, “Debunking 9/11 Myths,” in today’s New York Post. Here’s an excerpt:
I GET several e-mails from 9/11 conspiracy theorists every week, usually typed in all capital letters with minimal punctuation and maximum sputter. Here’s a typical message I received last Tuesday: “It appears you are not a believer. So, I have only one question, perhaps, but doubtfully, you can answer. WHY DID BUILDING SEVEN COME DOWN?”

Ed Brown Special Forces 1911This week’s gun is the Ed Brown Special Forces 1911. Price-wise this gun is on the opposite end of the spectrum of the inexpensive .45′s I have posted about previously. Its MSRP is $1995 ($2195 for those still stuck in the Republic of California). So the first question to ask, is it worth all those extra George Washingtons?

From the Guns & Ammo review:

One thing that sets the new Ed Brown Special Forces M1911 apart is Ed Brown himself. Brown, a longtime competitive shooter, machinist, tool and die maker/designer and gunsmith, has been working on 1911s seriously since the 1970s, when his fellow competitor shooters began bringing him their guns for trigger jobs. In 1988 he quit his full-time job at a die-casting company to become a custom gun-maker and parts manufacturer. All this experience has taught him a thing or two about pistols and the people who make them.

Some of the gun’s features include Gen III coating, ChainLink pattern on the forestrap and mainspring housing for a sure grip, lowered ejection port, polished feedramp, match grade barrel, memory groove beavertail safety, Novak 3-dot night sights installed using a slip-fit method, beveled magazine well and much more that can be found on the Special Forces product page.

This sounds like a really nice gun, well built by a well regarded craftsman. But I’d have to shoot one before you could convince me that its worth $1200 more than my Kimber. I am intrigued by the slip-fit sight system — that’s been a problem I’ve had with the Pro Carry II, my sights seem to be slightly off and adjusting them at the range isn’t an option.

Remember the 9/11 Victims   September 7th, 2006

Remember the 2996 victims of 9/11

Dale Roe has organized a rememberance of every one of the 2996 victims of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Flight 93. Volunteers have been organized to pay individual tribute to every single victim. The response has been good enough that there are more bloggers than victims now (3173 at last count).
