I’ve just finished moving the site over to use mod_wsgi instead of running it as a CGI module. There should be a slight speed improvement, but not anything that you will likely notice.

Disarmed Societies are Sheep   June 18th, 2009

In the UK they are discovering what happens when you disarm your population. According to this article muggins are now commonplace occurrences, with the thieves so bold that they will rob you in front of witnesses and so called security guards.

…and I speak as someone whose car was carjacked and whose house was broken into, with us in it, listening to his every stumble.

When my husband chased the robber down the street, the dutiful police officer advised us to install even more expensive security.

I can only hope that at some point our friends in England will realize the error of their ways and allow their subjects to arm and defend themselves as all people should be able to do.

We Bow to No One   April 5th, 2009

Although our President doesn’t seem to hold the same values as us. Breda has an excellent post on Obama’s Bow to the Saudi King.

A lot of blood has been spilled to guarantee me the right to never have to bare my neck in submission to another.

And yet…

Head down, eyes lowered and executing a bow so low that he needed to put a foot back to balance himself, Barack Obama is practically genuflecting to the King of Saudi Arabia.

A disgusting display if you ask me.

I just got back from the hearing tonight and KRRC members turned out in force! I estimated at least 250 people there, the county commissioner’s room was packed and people were standing out in the halls.

The quick summary of the situation is that the land KRRC is on is leased from the DNR, who wants to swap the land with Kitsap County for some other nearby land. The Lease would then be transferred to the County, which has a spotty track record with upholding leases.

There were lots of good questions for the State and County officials there. Questions like “why wasn’t KRRC told about this proposal until just this month?” and “why has shooting been left out of the county’s proposed land use plans”. The last one is especially telling, given that the club has been there since 1928 and by some accounts the area has been used for recreational shooting since the late 1870′s — before Washington even became a state.

The KRRC executive committee is standing their ground on their insistence that there be a legally binding contract ensuring the continued existence of the club before they will support the proposed land swap.

In other words we don’t trust our government, at the State or County level, to do the right thing, unless we have it as a legally binding document.

Charlton Heston, RIP   April 5th, 2008

Legendary actor, civil rights leader and political activist Charlton Heston passed away today, at the age of 84. He died at his home with Lydia, his wife of 64 years, at his side. Mr. Heston was loved by his two children, Fraser Clarke Heston and Holly Heston Rochell, and his three grandchildren, Jack Alexander Heston, Ridley Rochell and Charlie Rochell.

A Sheriff Who Gets It   March 12th, 2008

From the Colorado Springs Gazette comes this report:

El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa wants more guns – not for his deputies, but for citizens. “Offenders in the jail system tell me they avoid crimes against people because they know there is a very high concealed-carry rate,” Maketa told The Gazette.

A business in Reno, Nevada was flying a Mexican flag above an American flag. This is a violation of the law, flags of other countries may only be flown at equal or lower height than the American Flag. Jim Brossard hard about it on talk radio and decided something needed to be done. He pulled down the flags and cut the American Flag loose and took it, saying “They’re going to have to fight me for it if they want this flag”.

Good for Mr. Brossard! We need to see more action like this taken against these people who thing they can take over our country. We welcome immigrants with open arms, but they need to respect our culture instead of forcing theirs down our throats.

And why isn’t the Reno Federal prosecutor filing charges against this business owner? Why does this business still have a liquor license? Hell, a business license for that matter.

Google & Guns   September 30th, 2007

Say Uncle is reporting that he received a note from Google AdWords that they wouldn’t run ads on his site because it was primarily about guns. BEcause of this I have disabled the adword sharing on GunBloggers.com — I don’t want to be responsible for someone’s ads getting pulled.

While I believe that Google is well within their rights to be as anti-gun as they want to be, I am disappointed that they are unable to make the distinction between legal and illegal activities. Makes you wonder just how Evil they could become…

Patrick Henry was born on May 29, 1736, in Studley, Virginia. He was a brilliant orator and an influential leader in the opposition to British government. As a young lawyer, he astonished his courtroom audience in 1763 with an eloquent defense based on the doctrine of natural rights—the political theory that man is born with certain inalienable rights.

On his twenty-ninth birthday, as a new member of Virginia’s House of Burgesses, Henry presented a series of resolutions—the Stamp Act Resolves—which opposed Britain’s Stamp Act. The Resolves were adopted on May 30, 1765. He concluded his introduction of the Resolves with the fiery words “Caesar had his Brutus, Charles the First his Cromwell, and George the Third—” when, it is reported, voices cried out, “Treason! treason!” He continued, “—and George the Third may profit by their example! If this be treason make the most of it.”

[CA] Gimme another $500   March 3rd, 2007

The State of California is considering ripping another $500 (per child born) from the pockets of its over-taxed citizens. According to the San Mateo Daily Journal

Every child born in California would get a $500 savings account to start building a nest egg for college or down payment for a home, under a bipartisan bill introduced Wednesday in the state Senate.

I just love this part

Under the bill, every child born in California after Jan. 1, 2008, would receive the money, regardless of their parents’ income or immigration status. Recipients would repay the state’s initial $500 investment once they turn 18.

Oh Joy! Not only are they going to steal your money and give it to your neighbor’s kids, but they’re going to give it to the illegal’s kids as well. I wonder what that’s going to do for the illegal population count in California… Will it increase? You bet! Any time you start handing out freebies to those who don’t earn it you attract more freeloaders. California’s infrastructure is already overwhelmed by the illegal immigrant problem, this will just be one more nail in the coffin.

Not to mention the typical socialist stupidity of taking money from one group and giving it to another. But I won’t rehash that right now.

I’m not sure which is more pathetic — the news folks and their wall-to-wall coverage before they knew any facts, homeland security because these things were in place in 10 cities for two weeks before being discovered in Boston, or the marketing firm that dreamed up this miracle of modern marketing.

Turner Broadcasting, a division of Time Warner Inc. and parent of Cartoon Network, said the devices were part of a promotion for the TV show “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” a surreal series about a talking milkshake, a box of fries and a meatball.

“The packages in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger,” Turner said in a statement. It said the devices have been in place for two to three weeks in 10 cities: Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Ore., Austin, Texas, San Francisco and Philadelphia.

According to this report from The Hill, police were ordered to fall back and allow anti-war protesters to spray paint slogans on the steps of the US Capitol building.

According to the sources, police officers were livid when they were told to fall back by U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) Chief Phillip Morse and Deputy Chief Daniel Nichols. “They were the commanders on the scene,” one source said, who requested anonymity. “It was disgusting.”

Approximately 300 protesters were allowed to take the steps and began to spray paint “anarchist symbols” and phrase such as “Our capitol building” and “you can’t stop us” around the area, the source said.

Then, if that isn’t enough; I too will actually be receiving an award. Many of you either heard or saw that I had received a commendation from our local chapter of the American Legion. Well they put me in for nationals and I hardly gave it a second thought. First, the award usually goes to soldiers and with two wars (or one war on terror) and a hurricane, there were plenty of opportunities for heroism, second; there are an enormous amount of American Legion halls across this country– I wouldn’t stand a chance!

Except for the fact that… I won.

On Friday, Dec. 15th 7:00ish (double check with me) I will be the American Legion 2006 HERO of the year! Wow. God just seems to insist on sharing his glory with me. Wow. Ceremony will be Friday at American Legion Post #138, 7515 Cirque Drive (56th turns into Cirque). Look for a 7-11, a drug store and a whole lotta flags!

Guns, Guns and Kaboom!   September 26th, 2006

I’ve been a bit remiss in my posting chedule here as of late. Sorry about that. Maybe this will mke up for it. I spent Saturday at an undisclosed location with a bunch of the WA HTF (Hometown Forum) guys from AR15.com at their regular shoot/camp event. I only went for the day, and it was a heck of a time! There were well over 50 people there, uncountable guns of every variety, and friendly people everywhere. There was a bunch of Tannerite brought so we had our own short range Boomershoot as well!

In addition to the usual collection of AR-15′s we had 3 Barret .50′s, numerous M1 Garands, M14′s, a Thompson, P90, FALs and some others that I didn’t recognize and don’t remember the names of. I got to shoot several different ones for the first time, the Thompson being my favorite.

It was a beautiful day for Washington in September, the guys running the line did an excellent job and even though there were a few rifles that broke (watch out for the kind of ammo you are using, especially Adcom) there were no injuries.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that students were suspended for wearing patriotic t-shirts commemorating the 9/11 attacks.

Lewandowski says he was only trying to be patriotic when he wore a homemade T-shirt featuring an American flag bumper sticker and the words “Remember 9/11″ to Lincoln Park High School on Monday.

Thinking about sending your kids to Public School? Don’t.

Guitar Tab Sites Threatened   August 19th, 2006

There is a new wave of copyright driven censorship sweeping across the net. You are probably not aware of guitar tab sites, used by musicians to learn how to play songs. These sites are no threat to the copyright holders, they are just trying to learn how to play their music.

From the Music Student and Teacher Organization (MuSATO):

A BBC web article dated 12 December, 2005, quotes US Music Publishers Association president Lauren Keiser as saying that unlicensed guitar tabs and song scores were widely available on the Internet but were “completely illegal”…and further that the owners of these sites should “be jailed”.

One of the remaining sites is Ultimate-Guitar.com, who are protected from the MPA’s flurry of shutdown letters because they are located in Russia. They are also actually paying royalies through the ROMS system:

Ultimate-Guitar.Com website is absolutely legal tablature archive which activity is based on a Russian Organization on Collective Management of Rights of Authors and Other Rightholders in Multimedia, Digital Networks & Visual Arts (ROMS)’ license. ROMS is the national Russian organization providing professional collective management of authors’ property rights and protection of interests of rightsholders in cases of use of their works in digital interactive networks, including the Internet.

And guitartabs.cc has this to say:

When you are jamming with a friend and you show him/her the chords for a song you heard on the radio, is that copyright infringement? What about if you helped him/her remember the chord progression or riff by writing it down on, say, a napkin… infringement? If he/she calls you later that night on the phone or e-mails you and you respond via one of those methods, are you infringing? I don’t know… but I would really like to know. If anyone has information on this, please email support@guitartabs.cc.

Apparently, the NMPA/MPA believes that the Internet may be on the foul side of the legality line they would like to draw here. For me, I see no difference. It’s teachers educating students and covered as a ‘fair use’ of the tablature. The teachers here don’t even get paid nor do the students have to pay this website to access the lessons.
